Overview
This five-part course is designed for those who have either completed the introduction course, or already have the basic fundamentals of photography under their command. In each two-hour session, we’ll focus primarily on elevating the quality of your images, while learning new techniques and perspectives. Homework is assigned, which is essential to your progress. Your results will be analysed and reviewed during the following lesson.
What you will learn
- Introduction to flash photography: flash and camera settings, contrast and shadows, basic flash lighting techniques, ambient lighting with flash, flash aesthetics
- Shooting for the highest quality file results: digital file types, dynamic range, optimal exposure, auto focus settings and systems, lens quality, image style settings
- Introduction to photographic style: how to create a visual language, visual characteristics, experimentation, your personal approach, artistic expression
- Introduction to fine art photography: snapshot aesthetic, constructed realities, surrealism, mixed media, minimalism, abstraction
- Introduction to post-production: parameters for developing RAW files, contrast and toning, colour management, basic retouching tools

- Homework: you put the class topics into practice during your homework assignments, your photographs are reviewed the following class where you’ll be given specific technical, aesthetic and artistic feedback.
